  • China Bets on Expanding Leading Universities, Postgraduate Education, and STEM Fields

    At the XXVI April International Academic Conference named after Evgeny Yasin at HSE University, one of the distinguished speakers was Prof. Liguo Li of the School of Education at Tsinghua University. He spoke about changes in the structure of higher education in China in line with national strategic priorities, including a proposed 1.7–2-fold increase in the number of leading research universities.

    Nataliya Pugach, Professor at the School of Electronic Engineering at HSE MIEM and Leading Research Fellow at the Quantum Nanoelectronics Laboratory, explains how a long-standing acquaintance in Cambridge grew into a mirror laboratory project with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), how superconducting spintronics works, and what surprises a researcher in India beyond the university campus.

  • Mathematical Physics at HSE University Goes International

    The HSE University International Laboratory for Mirror Symmetry and Automorphic Forms and the Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA) held a joint online conference on mathematical physics. The results of the laboratory research presented at the event will be published in leading academic journals.

  • Scholar Explains How States Can Build Governance in Era of Mega-Shifts

    How can states maintain governability and stability in a world where rules are losing their force? Prof. Ali Farazmand of Florida Atlantic University answered this question at the XXVI April International Academic Conference. The scholar examined the transformation of the global order through the lens of two ‘mega-shifts’—from the rise of global corporate capitalism to the emerging multipolarity of today—and demonstrated why this transition requires new approaches to governance.

  • 'What Impressed Me Most Was the Highly Active and Energetic Group of Students'

    Sankha Basu, Assistant Professor at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-Delhi), taught a course at the Spring School 'Logic, Linguistics and Formal Philosophy' hosted by the International Laboratory for Logic, Linguistics and Formal Philosophy. This was his first visit to a Russian university, and he shared his impressions with the HSE News Service.

  • Transport and Cities: HSE’s Faculty of Urban and Regional Development Co-Organises First International Transport and Logistics Forum

    The HSE Faculty of Urban and Regional Development acted as a partner in organising the International Transport and Logistics Forum, held in April and bringing together participants from 82 countries. With the faculty’s support, a session was held entitled ‘A Driverless Future: How Driverless Transport is Changing the Concept of Spatial Organisation from the City to the State’ and moderated by Russian Minister of Transport Andrei Nikitin.

    Rufino Haroldo Locon, from Guatemala, graduated from the Master's in System Programming at the Faculty of Computer Science in 2024, and now he is a first-year PhD student at MIEM.   • A Trap for the Advanced Student: How to Break the Habit of Blindly Trusting Neural Networks

    Andrei Ternikov, Associate Professor at the St Petersburg School of Economics and Management at HSE University–St Petersburg, has developed a method for conducting online exams that significantly limits students’ ability to use ChatGPT and other AI models to obtain correct answers. Andrei Ternikov spoke to the HSE News Service about his approach—which won the HSE University Autumn Educational Innovation Competition, received an Alfa Future grant, and was presented at an international conference in Japan.

  • HSE University Presents Research Results at AI Conference in Oman

    In April 2026, the International Conference on Intelligent Systems and Artificial Intelligence Applications (ISAA 2026) was held at the University of Nizwa in the Sultanate of Oman. The event was co-organised by HSE University, the University of Nizwa, and the University of Technology and Applied Sciences–Ibri. Researchers from HSE University were among the key speakers at the conference.
